Ethnic Nose
There are great ethnic variations in the shape and size of the nose, height of the
bridge of the nose, width of the nose, and thickness of the nasal skin. As a
general rule, African, Latin, and Asian noses tend to be wider, flatter, and have
thicker skin than Caucasian noses. There is a range of nasal and facial features
and it is important for the surgeon to be aware of the anatomic features of each
ethnicity.
The goal in ethnic rhinoplasty is to refine and reshape the undesirable features of
the nose but to ensue that the end result matches the individual as a whole and
is appropriate for their ethnic background.
